10 Week English Language Course


The course will begin on Monday 1 July 2019 and will last 10 weeks ending on Friday 6 September 2019 The College term will start on Monday 16 September 2019.

The classes will run every day, Monday to Friday, please note that there will be no classes on Monday 26 August as this is a Bank Holiday.


This course combines Academic Preparation, General English and Study Skills. You will also be required to complete assignments, self-directed study and instrumental practice outside of class hours. The course aims to raise a student’s English level by the equivalent of one IELTS band (1.0) and adjust to life in the UK and at the College before the start of the academic year in September. You will have the opportunity to complete practice tests and will also be required to sit a formal examination at the end of the course.


Course tuition fees for the 10-week programme: £3,550

In addition, students will require a copy of The Cambridge Music Guide edited by Stanley Sadie and Alison Latham.  Students can purchase a copy of the text when they arrive in the UK.

Accommodation (Student Housing) for Pre-Sessional English Language Course

Accommodation for the 10 week Pre-Sessional English Language course is dealt with separately to the accommodation for your Undergraduate / Postgraduate course.

Accommodation for the Pre-Sessional English Language course will be available in the Halls of Residence for the 10 weeks of the course. You don't need to apply for this, you will automatically be given a place in the Halls of Residence when you register and pay for the course. You can move in to the Halls of Residence from Saturday 29 June 2019 and you must move out by Saturday 7 September 2019. Bedding Packs (including a Duvet, Pillows and Linen) are available for a small charge.

Accommodation fees: £129.00 per week.

Accommodation (Student Housing) for Undergraduate / Postgraduate (BMus, BA, PGDip, MA, MMus)

If you wish to live in Halls of Residence for the first year of your Undergraduate / Postgraduate course you will need to apply for a room using the Student Portal website  - you will find the website address in your Offer Letter. You can apply for this accommodation from April 2019.

Once you have completed the English Language course you will need to change rooms in the Halls of Residence. The room you move in to will be the room you stay in for the first year of your Undergraduate / Postgraduate course.

UK Visas & Immigration requirements are strict regarding English Language Qualifications, you must have the below in order to gain a place on the pre-sessional course. IELTS results submitted for entry to pre-sessional courses MUST BE UKVI APPROVED TESTS. NO OTHER TESTS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

If you have achieved the correct IELTS level and have met all of the other conditions for entry onto your RWCMD course in September, then we will issue you a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) statement for both the pre-sessional course and your degree course.
