
Alexandra Bellamy graduated from Queens College
Oxford with a BA in Music in 1991 and went on to study the
historical oboe with Sophia McKenna and Paul Goodwin at the Royal
Academy of Music. In 1995 she received the post of principal
oboe with the European Union Baroque Orchestra and has since played
with all the main UK period instrument orchestras as well as many
others throughout the rest of Europe. From 1999 - 2008 she
was principal oboe of The Kings Consort and can be heard on many of
this group’s recordings on the Hyperion label. Since 1995
Alexandra has played with Florilegium and has regularly toured and
recorded with Paul McCreesh’s Gabrieli Consort. Alexandra has
also worked for The Academy of Ancient Music, The Sixteen, The
English Consort, London Baroque, Concerto Copenhagen, Freiburg
Baroque Orchestra and Ensemble 415. Other orchestral
highlights have included several tours around Australia with The
Australian Chamber Orchestra directed by Richard Tognetti and a
tour with Yo Yo Ma and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra.
Over the years she has given chamber performances in collaboration
with various violinists including Rachel Podger, Monica Huggett and
the Norwegian Bjarte Eike. More recently she has enjoyed concerts
and recordings with Retrospect Ensemble, and is a regular member of
the Edinburgh based Dunedin Consort directed by John Butt.
Alexandra teaches at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama,
has taught on The Jerusalem Early Music Course and frequently
coaches modern and period wind players at The Royal College of
Music in London.
