Alis Huws - Harp

Originally from Mid Wales, Alis graduated with first class honours from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in 2017, where she now continues her studies with Caryl Thomas. Graduating with the Midori Matsui Prize for music, Alis was also winner of the Royal Welch Fusiliers Harp prize (2015) and the McGrennery Chamber Music Prize (2015) as part of her Flute and Harp duo.

An experienced performer, Alis recently travelled to Hong Kong as part of a quartet, giving a concert at the World Harp Congress with International Harpist, Catrin Finch. Earlier this year, she performed alongside Katherine Jenkins and Only Men Aloud at a prestigious event celebrating the UEFA Champions League Final in Cardiff. Alis was selected to represent Wales at the Hankyu International Fair in Osaka in 2016, as well as performing for the Royal Opening of the Senedd 2016. She was part of RWCMD’s Royal Gala Event in Buckingham Palace, hosted by HRH The Prince of Wales in Spring 2016, and performed as part of her Flute and Harp duo for the Welsh Government’s St David’s Day celebrations at Lancaster house, 2017. In 2015, Alis was also a soloist in the Mervyn Burtch Memorial Concert at the Dora Stoutzker Hall.

Alis is a past member of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales, and was principal harp in WNO’s Youth Opera production of Kommillitonen! In Summer 2016. She has participated in side-by-side schemes with WNO and played alongside the orchestra in an Opera Gala Concert in December 2016.

With a keen interest in Outreach work, Alis regularly performs in care homes for charities such as Music in Hospitals & Care, and Lost Chord, as part of a flute and harp and a voice and harp duo.

Alis is generously supported by a Help Musicians UK Postgraduate Award, The Ryan Davies Memorial Fund, the Margaret Davies Memorial Trust and an EMI Sound Foundation Scholarship.
