Mared Pugh-Evans – Harp

Originally from Borth, near Aberystwyth, Mared is currently studying an undergraduate degree at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama under Caryl Thomas, her teacher of 9 years.

Mared has won numerous solo contests both nationally and internationally, most notably winning a coveted Blue Riband prize and scholarship at the National Eisteddfod and consecutive scholarships at the Caernarfon International Harp Festival 2014 and 2018. She has attended and competed in harp festivals in France, Belgium, Italy, Hungary and Bangkok. A long-standing friendship with the Tamnak Prathom Harp School in Bangkok has led to numerous performances in the city and also an opportunity to present the competitors at the Youth Harp Competition in 2016.

She performs regularly at weddings, in concerts and for fund-raising events and has shared billing with Catrin Finch, Hannah Stone, Rhys Meirion and Mo Pleasure (of Earth, Wind & Fire fame) and recently made her Concerto debut with the City of Cardiff Symphony Orchestra.

Mared was part of the RWCMD harp ensemble which welcomed HRH The Prince of Wales to the College as part of his 70th Birthday tour; the Paul Patterson 70th Birthday celebrations harp ensemble; represented the College on the Encore Stage at the National Eisteddfod Cardiff 2018; RWCMD Symphony Orchestra; and has recorded new works with students on the Composition course and accompanied instrumentalists and singers in exams and concerts.

She has been fortunate enough to participate in masterclasses with Anneleen Lanaerts, Marisa Robles, Edward Witsenburg and Deborah Henson-Conant.
