A legacy from you, through them to the
world
Leaving a legacy to the College is one of the most important,
personal and valuable actions you can take to ensure that the
College continues to thrive and develop and to attract the most
talented students from across the world.
A gift in your will to the Royal Welsh College of Music &
Drama will directly support our students' training and help to
launch them into their professional careers. Many will go on to
make significant creative contributions locally and internationally
within the worlds of music and theatre and bequests can be set up
in a variety of ways to provide support over many future
generations.
If the idea of leaving such a far reaching and long lasting gift
appeals to you and you would like to explore the possibilities
further, please consider coming to talk to us. If you do so, we can
ensure that your particular interests and wishes and the needs of
the College and its students are brought together in the most
effective way possible.
Meanwhile here are a few facts and suggestions to help
you:
- The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama is a registered
charity and any gift you make to us will be exempt from UK
inheritance tax.
- There are a number of ways you can support the College and its
students. You can leave a percentage of your estate, a set amount
of money or a specific gift in the form of a property, stocks and
shares, works of art or musical instruments.
- Bequests that are unrestricted will enable the Senior
Management Team at the College to put your support to best use,
depending on which area of the College's work is most in need at
the time.
Alternatively, you can create a bequest that clearly
directs how you would like your gift to be used while still meeting
College priorities. For example you could leave a legacy
for:
- Student scholarships
Scholarships across all our training disciplines are the College's
current fundraising priority. They can be named or anonymous and,
depending on the level of endowment created, may be awarded in
perpetuity.
- Masterclasses with world class tutors and
mentors
Masterclasses with international practitioners who are working at
the highest level, are a growing part of our students' training.
Since the creation of the new spaces we have the opportunity to
invite more world class tutors and performers but need additional
funds to do so.
- Performance opportunities and fully staged
productions
We are committed to creating a wide range of relevant performance
opportunities for our students and the development of the Dora
Stoutzker Hall, the Richard Burton Theatre and the public foyer
have provided exceptional professional conditions
- Instruments for student practice and performance
The opportunity to learn and perform on an excellent and responsive
instrument is vital to the full development of a musician's skills
and own voice. We are always in need of high quality instruments
for those studying here to use and the gift of an instrument to the
College will enable many future generations of musicians to reach
their full potential.
- Ongoing capital projects
Following the opening of our new world class facilities, it
continues to be important for the College to develop and maintain a
capital fund. This fund is for the upkeep of the main performance
and training spaces, refurbishment of practice rooms and study
areas and, in due course, the development of an exceptional new
library both for the students and the general public who wish to
have access to our collections.
If you decide you want to make a bequest to the College
and know how you wish to direct it, we advise that you consult a
solicitor to ensure your will is legally valid, up to date and
reflects your intentions. If your wishes are simple, these examples
of wording covering two different kinds of legacy, may be helpful
to you.
