Our Acting Courses for 16-20 year olds will teach you specific
skills and techniques that will help you stand out from the crowd
at auditions and give you a chance to work with industry
professionals, many of whom teach on the BA Acting course at the
Royal Welsh College. The College has an excellent reputation within
the industry and The Guardian University Guide 2018 ranked the
College’s drama training as the best in the UK. Class sizes are
limited to no more than 13 students per group.
As well as Audition Technique, our classes cover the key
features of professional actor training:
- Improvisation
- Text
- Movement
- Voice
- Alexander Technique
- Acting through Song
- Acting for Camera
Several of our students have gained places on the BA Acting
programme at RWCMD and many others have secured places at
prestigious colleges such as RADA, Guildhall, Guildford School of
Acting, LAMDA, Arts Educational School and the Drama Centre. Many
of our students also gain places on a wide variety of university
courses throughout the UK.
Our Cardiff-based Acting Courses run on Sundays (10am – 3.45pm)

Auditions
Following a 60-minute group workshop you will be asked to
present one speech to the audition panel and to the other members
of your audition group. The speech should be no longer than two
minutes and your interpretation will be re-directed by the panel.
As well as assessing your potential and suitability for training,
the Audition Panel (which includes the YAS Leader, as well as YAS
Tutors) places a high value on:
- Preparation
- Motivation
- Generosity when working with others
- Responsiveness to direction
- Facility with text
- Enjoyment
We also make the following recommendations:
- Read the whole play and examine the characters carefully and
make sure you learn the speech thoroughly
- Choose a speech by characters that are similar in age to you
and select a speech which reveal your range and your strengths
- Avoid using an accent other than your own, unless you are
absolutely secure in it.
- Avoid telephone speeches
- Do not use props
- Wear appropriate clothing which will allow you to move easily
and comfortably
Throughout your time with us the panel will seek to put you at
ease and to make the experience an enjoyable and constructive one.
Although it will not be possible for parents/guardians/friends to
accompany you in the audition room itself, they are welcome to wait
for you in main reception. You will receive notification of the
result of your audition by post. Your audition score sheet will be
made available to you on request.
